It’s been 7 months since I said goodbye to my 9-6 job to be a full-time Ontological & NLP coach.
These 7 months were packed with transitions and a great deal of learning and unlearning:
– being led ➡️ leading
– being paid to work ➡️ working to be paid
– fixed work hours ➡️ flexible work hours
– fixed rest hours ➡️ flexible rest hours
– working in a team ➡️ (pretty much) working on my own
– (largely) predictable nature of work & plans ➡️ some predictability + lots of possibilities and creativity to growing my business

My key realisations so far?
1. I’m becoming less afraid of failure.
When I worked for a company, ironically, I was afraid to fail, to be judged as incompetent. But now that I’m working for myself, the stakes are higher. I make it work no matter what. I pick myself up quickly and move on.
2. I feel like I’ve come home to myself.
There are struggles, yes, but a lot of wins too. A big one being my core business of deep, transformational coaching is what I love to do, and the fringe activities I undertake add to growing that. Plus, I get to pick and choose what goes in, who, when, and how. That’s a whole lot of freedom.
3. I create my own opportunities and hence, Experiences.
In a company, at times work seemed repetitive, especially seasonal work. I felt I was amassing the same experience x years. But now, the intentionality to create and realise opportunities that add to a rich, diversified experience has become stronger for me.
This has been a profound shift for me, and I’m passionate about helping my clients discover and experience transformative shifts as well – might not be a big career change like mine, but meaningful, satisfying, productive all the same.
